Tips to stay Healthy while Traveling - Traveling this summer? Here are a few easy ways to stay healthy when you're taking your next road trip or that much-awaited vacation!

Vacations are a time to enjoy and a good excuse to let go and have all the amazing food that you can. But many of us get that occasional guilt when we are back from an amazing trip and then decide to detoxify or go on diets because we have binged too much. Trust me I totally know that feeling.

Whenever we travel, whether it’s road trips or taking a flight, we try to take the utmost advantage by trying out the local food and new places as much as we can. But whether you are taking a one-day road trip to a beach with the family or taking a vacation for an extended period of time, making healthier choices can sometimes be difficult.

Here are a few ways to stay on track and make healthier choices even when you are traveling –

1. Start your day on the right note

Go for healthier breakfast options like eggs, whole wheat toasts, smoothies etc. If there’s a breakfast buffet at the place you’re staying in, opt for healthier things instead of devouring that delicious looking bagel or waffles. But if you absolutely cannot resist it, go for smaller portions or share it with your partner or friends.

2. Head to the grocery store at your vacation destination

Even if you are staying at a hotel for just a couple of days, consider heading to the nearest grocery store and grab a few healthy things like yogurt, fruits, and water.

3. Look for healthier snack alternatives

Snacking in between meals is a great way to stay fueled and energized. It also helps to avoid getting exhausted and ‘hangry’ by the time mealtime arrives.

Try to pack healthier & nutritious snack options when you are traveling that you can easily have on the go. We always pack things like granola bars, trail mix or dry fruits to snack on when going on a trip. When looking for packaged snacks, I always check for a few simple things like whether the snacks are baked vs fried, are non-GMO etc.

One such great alternative are these organic chickpea puffs called

What exactly are Hippeas, you ask?

With 4 grams of protein and 3 grams fiber per 1 oz serving, these light and crunchy chickpea puffs are an absolutely delicious and healthier way to snack on during long road trips or flights.

They come in and ever since I tried them out, I can’t stop munching on them. My favorite has to be their ‘Far out Fajita’ flavor.

Plus they are Gluten Free, Vegan, Kosher, USDA Organic, Non-GMO and have no Nuts or Soy. Now that’s a winner for sure!

Also, did you guys know that for every bag they sell, they donate to ‘FARM AFRICA’ – a charity helping farmers grow themselves out of poverty and build a more prosperous life.

I always love supporting brands that do their part in contributing towards the society!

4. Do a little research before dining

If you have any specific dietary needs or concerns, it is always better to google the nearest restaurants and look for places that can accommodate your needs. And if you’re unsure about a place, just take a quick glance at the reviews on Yelp or Zomato so you know what to expect beforehand.

5. Cut out those extra calories

If you can, try and avoid getting sodas or other sweet beverages so as to cut down on unnecessary calories. Instead, opt for regular water, coconut water or other fresh fruit juices (make sure there’s no extra sugar added in your fruit juices).

6. Exercise while you can

If the hotel you’re staying in has a gym, take advantage of it. Even if you can spare only 20 minutes, just do it. Alternatively, you can also resort to doing simple things like squats or pushups before you head out the door.

7. Finally, Don’t stress about it!

It is completely okay to splurge on meals while you are traveling. After all, you are on vacation. Plus if you keep worrying about all the calories you are consuming all the time when you are out traveling, you will end up not enjoying your trip. And chances are – you’ll end up regretting that later.

So if there’s absolutely something you cannot resist like a famous donut or a bakery shop at a particular place – go for it! Just try and make up for it later.
