This healthy & delicious Chocolate Almond Oat Waffles recipe is the perfect weekend breakfast that you can have with a guilt-free feeling! Enjoy it with your favorite berries or a drizzle of honey and start off your day on a delicious note.
Lately, my little one has been loving waffles very much. He gets so excited and always demands chocolate waffles for breakfast.
I never really owned a waffle maker thinking they would take too much time to cook but relying on store-bought waffles is not something that I want to do every time my son wants to eat waffles.
So I finally decided to get a mini waffle maker to make homemade waffles instead of relying on store-bought ones.
This healthier version of waffles is the perfect way to start your day. I love to freeze them and then warm them up whenever you need them – they make for a quick breakfast, especially on busy days.
I mean can you really say no to these?
These waffles are made from the simplest ingredients and have no added sugar in them. I have used equal parts oat flour & almond flour – but if you do not have almond flour on hand, you can skip it and make it with just oat flour instead.
Trust me when I say this – once you make these, you probably won’t go back to making regular waffles! As mentioned above, they have no added sugar in them. Instead, I have used honey to sweeten them up.
Note – to make oat flour, just put regular oats in the blender and mix it till it turns into a fine powder.
To give it a decadently rich chocolate flavor, I have used my very favorite Rodelle Gourmet Baking Cocoa.
Rodelle’s Dutch-processed cocoa powder contains one of the highest levels of cocoa butter on the market, ensuring superior & richer chocolate flavor.
From rich hot cocoa to fudgy brownies, Rodelle Gourmet Baking Cocoa makes a difference you can truly taste.
To further enhance the flavor of the waffles, I have also added a splash of Rodelle Gourmet Pure Vanilla Extract.
It is made with a unique blend of premium vanilla beans from select growing regions around the world. Boasting a rich robust flavor.
Rodelle is proud to be a world leader in the production of authentic vanilla flavors and premium cooking and baking ingredients. In 2020 they launched Fairtrade Organic Vanilla Rodelle with their partners from Sahanala.
I always love supporting companies that practice Fair Trade because it shows that they truly care.
I also believe that using quality ingredients is key to making delicious recipes and I can always rely on Rodelle for this reason.
You can get both – Gourmet Baking cocoa, as well as their Gourmet Vanilla Extract on Rodelle’s website or even on Amazon.
Chocolate Oat Almond Waffles
Ingredients
- Oat flour - 1/2 cup
- Almond Flour - 1/2 cup (I have used blanched almond flour)
- Cocoa Powder - 2 tbsp (I have used Rodelle Gourmet Baking Cocoa Powder)
- Milk - 1/3 cup
- Eggs - 2
- Honey - 3 tbsp
- Vanilla Extract - 1/2 tsp (I have used Rodelle Gourmet Vanilla Extract)
- Baking Powder - 1/2 tsp
Instructions
- Mix all the dry ingredients together. Then add eggs, milk, honey & vanilla extract and mix properly with a whisk.
- Heat your waffle maker and lightly grease it with oil.
- Pour in your waffle mix in the waffle maker. Make sure you do not overpour otherwise the mixture can come out of the waffle maker.
- Top your waffles with honey/ whipped cream/ chocolate sauce and fruits of your choice and serve.
Notes
These waffles aren't overly sweet as it only has 3 tbsp honey in them. If you would like them to be on the sweeter side, you can add a little more honey in them. Ideally, you can add 1 or 2 tbsp more honey in the batter and then top it with more honey/ maple syrup once the waffles are ready to be served.
If you find your batter to be a bit thicker than you'd like, you can add 1-2 tbsp of more milk in it.
