An organic lifestyle is not just better for your health but also better for our overall environment. But does living an organic lifestyle mean shelling out more money? Not necessarily. Here are a few simple ways to achieve that –
I used to be that person who used to feel that organic products and food will cost me an unnecessary extra amount of money with no real benefits. I also used to think that the hype around an ‘organic lifestyle’ is just that – a mere hype. But boy, was I so naive!
I have also never been the type of person who considered working towards a more organic lifestyle. But my perspective completely changed when I attended a food conference & expo about a year and a half back. I realized the importance of non-GMO products and what steps companies need to take in order to make a USDA Certified product.
Ever since then, we have slowly been working towards a more organic lifestyle and it has never been better! And trust me, it is not as difficult or expensive as it may seem. Here are a few ways to do it –
1. Start with One Step at a Time
It is always better to make small changes instead of completely trying to transform your lifestyle overnight. The best way is to start with food. If you eat out often, try to cook more meals at home. Another way you can aim for a more organic lifestyle is by buying skincare, beauty or cleaning products that have lesser chemicals or that have more natural products in them.
However, don’t swap out everything at once. Start with one thing at a time so that you can get used to it.
2. Buy Local Produce
When you buy from your local farmers’ market or buy local produce from the grocery store, you are not only supporting your local community but you are also making sure that you are getting organic and fresher produce in your diet.
3. Read Ingredients Carefully
When you’re in the grocery store how many times do you actually stop to read the ingredient list carefully? Chances are if you are in a rush or have other errands to take care of, you will either scan the ingredient list briefly or just get the product from the shelf and toss it in your cart.
But next time, make sure to read the ingredients carefully, especially if its a packaged product. And if you don’t really have time, at least make sure whether the product you are buying is a non-GMO product, check if it has any added preservatives or sugar or is USDA certified organic.
When it comes to fruit juices, I’m always careful because I don’t want any extra sugar, added preservatives or any artificial flavors in it. I mean do you really need all that in your juice?
So when I found out that Ocean Spray® Organic 100% Juices are non-GMO as well as USDA Organic certified, carrying the organic seal and also contain no added sugar, preservatives, or artificial flavors, I just knew I had to give them a try! After all, it’s not always that you come across products made with carefully crafted ingredients.
Ocean Spray® Organic 100% Juices are made with the crisp, clean taste of organically grown North American cranberries fresh from the farm, making it good for you and your family. This means I can safely rely on it and quench my thirst every time I sip on it without having to worry about any artificial ingredients in my juice.
They come in three delicious flavors –
Organic Cranberry Apple &
Organic Cranberry Blueberry
Out of them, my favorite is the Organic Cranberry Apple flavor!
For a product that is so natural and healthy, you’d think it would be costly. But in fact, they are super affordable!

4. Grow your Own Food
Growing your own veggies is not only super satisfying but can also be a great way to involve the kids and teach them interesting facts.
Things like lettuce, green onion, mint or basil are very easy to grow and you don’t need a huge backyard for it. Plus they require just a small amount of care.
And for those who have the liberty and space, you can definitely consider investing some time and energy towards growing your own veggies at home like tomatoes, squash, green beans etc.
5. Be Less Wasteful by buying only what is necessary
Think of all the food that we end up throwing in the trash because it went bad or the expiry date has passed. To be honest, I’m totally guilty of this too – fruits & veggies that have gone bad, condiments and sauces not used up on time… ughh… I can go on.
Remember that when things end up in the trash, it’s not just resources being wasted but also your money going down the drain along with it.
So next time, buy in bulk only if you know you can finish it on time and not just because things are on sale. This not only applies to food items but also for skincare or makeup products that come with expiry dates. Also, make sure you freeze your leftovers in case you won’t be eating them in the next one or two days.
I hope some of these tips will inspire you to live a more organic and healthier lifestyle. What are some of the ways you follow to achieve it? I would love to know!
