“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”

Sometimes all you need is a weekend getaway to relax and rejuvenate yourselves. As Spring made its way, we really wanted to get out of the house and take a leisurely trip. With a young baby, we were looking forward to having a relaxing trip not too far away from home. Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa located in Milton, NY gave us exactly what we were looking for. With its beautiful guest houses and cottages surrounded by the most amazing views, a farm to table restaurant as well as a state of the art spa, they truly have it all.

Cozy & Comfortable Rooms

There are 18 guest rooms and suites – 10 in the main house as well as 8 private guest houses & cottages spread out across the property. One of the best parts is that each guest house/ cottage has its own unique charm. This gives you a chance to choose from a ton of different options and you can go for the one that will fit you the best.

While the guest rooms are more suitable for couples, the guest cottages and guest houses offer a larger space that is more private and are better apt for families (some of them are even pet-friendly).

We stayed at the North Cottage that can fit up to 5 people – perfect for families or if you are traveling with a couple of friends.

Living room & Dining area –

north cottage living room

We absolutely loved the warm and inviting living & dining area. The cottage even had a wood burning fireplace and although it wasn’t really that cold when we stayed there, it did get a little chilly at night. So of course, we took advantage of the fireplace and spent some cozy time in the evening sipping some local wine on the comfortable couches.

The dining area had plenty of sunlight with a view of the Hudson River and had access to the deck.

One of the best parts was that the kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly imagine – from a coffee maker to cups, dishes, pots, pans and even measuring cups – yes, really everything that you would want in a kitchen. It was so convenient especially when you are traveling with young kids.

KITCHEN

The cozy master bedroom had a charming queen-sized bed and had direct access to the deck (just like the dining area).

The second/ guest bedroom was equipped with two twin sized beds and was located right next to the master bedroom.

Loved their spotless and spacious bathroom which even had a washer and dryer.

While we spent a cozy night by the fireplace at night, we enjoyed some quiet time on the private deck during the morning as well as the evening with some delicious hot coffee. Like I said, you can access the deck from the master bedroom as well as the dining area. They even have a grill for you to use – perfect for some summertime grilling.

Also, one of the parts that I liked was having a washer and dryer in the cottage itself. This was so convenient especially since we have a young baby.

Right outside our cottage was where they have kept the peacocks, hens, and roosters. We enjoyed taking a quick stroll outside, looking at the majestic peacocks who were definitely not shy to show off their beauty.

Bon Appetit

They have a cozy breakfast bar which is open from 8 am – 10 am. One of my favorite parts was that unlike regular hotels, your breakfast is made to order and you can even customize it if there’s something specific you’d like.

Apart from this, they even have a buffet of fresh scones, muffins, fresh fruits, croissants, hard boiled eggs (fresh eggs from the Millstone farm) cottage cheese, etc. every morning. The coffee & tea bar is open till 5 pm which was so convenient since we could quickly stop by for a quick snack in the afternoon before heading out for some sightseeing.

Henry’s at the Farm

The onsite restaurant Henry’s at the Farm is a beautiful Farm to Table restaurant serving upscale food made with fresh ingredients sourced from the Millstone Farm. Needless to say, you can expect freshness in every bite. I will be sharing a full review soon but here’s a glimpse of some of the dishes we had at Henry’s –

Tip: Make your reservations beforehand as the place can get quite busy during the evenings.

Millstone Farm and Animal Sanctuary

One of the highlights of Buttermilk Falls Inn is their on-site Millstone Farm and Animal Sanctuary where you can meet their friendly llamas, a couple of beautiful peacocks, ducks and even a gorgeous pair of swans. Oh, and did I mention that the farm also harvests honey that you can buy from the Inn’s gift store? You can’t beat farm fresh honey, can you?

This little guy seemed to be extra friendly and came really close to us – and of course, our baby had the time of his life seeing these cute creatures.

State of the Art Spa

I was initially contemplating as to whether or not to book a spa session but I am soooo glad I did. My massage therapist was really amazing and she made sure to focus on the areas which bother me the most.

My sore muscles really thanked me and I loved it so much that I went ahead and booked a spa session for the hubs the next day even though he is not really into spas. Well, it was no surprise that he really ended up having a relaxing time as well.
