Love spending quality time with your partner but are not really a fan of expensive date nights? Here are a few fun and affordable ideas for having date nights at home.
With kids now back to school and the holidays approaching soon, life has certainly got busy for everyone and spending quality time with your partner could take a backseat.
Plus going on date nights can sometimes be expensive. Especially if you have kids, it might not always be feasible to leave them with a babysitter and go out every now and then.
So does that mean you cannot have fun at home? Absolutely not! My husband and I love spending time with each other by just staying in and relaxing with each other.
But how can you make this fun? Here are a few budget-friendly date night ideas for you that can help you reconnect that spark with your partner.
1. Set the Mood
Think about creating a nice and pleasant ambiance in your home. Keep some fresh flowers around the house. Dim the lights and light some of your favorite candles. It will immediately make you feel happy and set the tone for the rest of your evening.
2. Watch the first movie that you ever saw together as a couple
What was the first movie that you ever watched together? Was it a romantic movie, an action movie or a sci-fi one? Whatever it was, watch it again and try and remember that day when you watched the movie first time ever as a couple. It’s such a fun way to reminisce about the past.
3. Look back at your wedding album or wedding video
It’s so much fun to look back at old photos and videos. All the memories come back to you and you can remember all the wonderful, fun as well as silly things that may have happened on your wedding day.
4. Keep the Meal Convenient (so you don’t have to worry about the prep and after clean mess up)
Although we love cooking together as a team, I’m not really a huge fan of the prep work and all the clean-up that you have to do later. Sometimes keeping mealtime easy and convenient is essential when you want to spend quality time with each other.
Last weekend was one of those days when we decided to stay in and relax. Since I wanted to keep things simple and easy, I decided to give cooking a break and instead, got a deliciously prepared meal from my local ShopRite.
Actually, it so happened that when I walked into the store, I saw that they were bringing out their fresh 8-Piece Fried Chicken. The aroma of the chicken was so tempting that I knew it would make for a perfect meal on our date night at home.
And since I’m always a sucker when it comes to deals, I also got a bottle of DASANI 1L water along with it and saved $.99 with my Price Plus card.
After lighting some candles on the table, I served the Fried Chicken with some coleslaw. And how could I forget about the beverages? I paired the chicken with FUZE Iced Tea in Lemon Flavor to jazz things up a bit.
Like I said, sometimes giving yourself a break from your regular chores is really important to unwind and relax. Just the thought of not having to prep for a meal makes me so happy.
5. Play Games
This one has to be my favorite of all the things. I love playing multiplayer video games where I can beat my husband (even if it means cheating a little :D) So whether it is card games or playing video games, get into that competitive spirit for some extra fun!
6. Unplug from all devices and just be together with each other like old times
Remember back in the day when cell phones didn’t exist? Sometimes I feel things were less complicated back then. Switch off all your devices and just spend time chatting with each other.
7. Wish Bowl
You could write your dreams or things you have on your bucket list on a piece of paper, fold it & place it in a bowl. Mix them up and then open them one by one. Read it aloud and decide what you would like to do in the coming year.
8. Get Creative
Unleash your creativity – paint a canvas together or decorate a coffee mug for each other.
9. Gaze at the Stars and share your Future Plans
Sit in your backyard or your patio and share your future plans with each other while gazing at the stars.
10. Take a fancy Bubble Bath
When was the last time you had a fancy bubble bath together? For those of you that answered – “umm, I can’t even remember” – this one is for you.
Now you might be like – who has time for that?? Well, I know what you’re saying and I totally get it. But surely you can spare 20 minutes of your time on a weekend. A bubble bath will not only help you to relax and ease your stress, but it will also help you to connect with your partner.
So these were some of the fun and affordable ways that you can have fun with your partner on a date night in. Do you have any ideas for spending some quality time with your partner at home? I would love to know.
