I know almost all my recent posts are revolving around the festive theme but I can’t seem to hold myself back with everything happening around!
It has been an unusually warm winter here… no sign of snow like I mentioned the other day. So I am taking full advantage of the situation. I mean I’m someone who gets cold even if the temperature drops just a little bit… arghh! (How I envy those joggers who go running in shorts when the sidewalk is filled with mountains of snow! I can’t even manage to walk properly without slipping 😀 )
So coming back to my post – Bringing some more holiday spirit to Midtown Manhattan is the ‘Winter Village’ at Bryant Park, New York City! This is one of my favorite places which transforms magically over the winter.
The Ice Skating Rink is the central attraction and a beautiful Christmas Tree serves as a perfect backdrop for your holiday photos! Ice skating is free for everyone and they also offer skating classes.
There are close to 125 pop up shops/ kiosks in the Winter Village ranging from jewelry, gifts to even local food. It’s like a true shopper’s little paradise 😉 Here is a little sneak peek –
After strolling through the park and clicking a bunch of pics, I was a little hungry. So we decided to have mac & cheese at this kiosk called ‘Super Mac + Cheese.’ I was expecting it be awesome but it was just okay although the bread crumbs topping was delicious!
Near the fountain terrace area, I saw this shop called ‘Chimney Cake – The Rolling Pretzel.’ I was kind of drawn to it… they have both sweet as well as savory options. We decided to go for the Cinnamon Sugar flavor with a chocolate filling. I had never tried Chimney Cake before (apparently it is a traditional Hungarian pastry.) It is hollow and kind of tasted like churros but way softer and the chocolate filling had a hint of minty flavor (which was not too over-powering) It was reallyyyy good and as I’m typing this, I feel like having it again!
The winter village is held every year at Bryant Park which goes on until the 1st week of January, and it is sure to create magical memories for everyone. Did I say it’s one of my favorite places to visit during the Holiday season?! I think I already did 😀

December 16, 2015Youhooo… I love these moments of the year. Trees, cakes, lot of fun. This Chimney Cake is in fact Kürtőskalács, which is a spit cake specific to Hungarian-speaking regions in Romania. See more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%BCrt%C5%91skal%C3%A1cs

December 17, 2015I’m glad you shared this with us! Every time I drive by Bryant Park I always say to myself, where did these awesome little kiosks come from?! I haven’t been ice skating in Bryant pro in years, so i dont know if maybe I just don’t remember the kiosks before or if they are new. All I know is when I’m sitting at the light, I’m wishing to be strolling around the lil shops, enjoying the beautifully warm weather :).
