Eating healthy is certainly not cheap. I mean I get it – there are very few coupons when it comes to healthy food and snacks and trying to stay on a budget while shopping for healthy food items can indeed be difficult.

But with a few careful steps, you can still manage to eat healthy on a budget.

Shop for things that are in Season

Shopping for produce that is in-season is not only easy on your wallet since seasonal produce always tends to be cheaper, but it will also ensure that your body gets the right type of nutrients.

You can even buy them in bulk and freeze them or can them. Things like tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries etc can be easily canned or frozen that you can eat later and use in your pasta, soups, smoothies etc.

Ditch Take Out

Last month we had a lot of takeouts which caused our budget to skyrocket. Even those $3 coffee trips every day can add up at the end of the month.

Planning healthy meals is key to this so that you don’t end up going out every other night to get junk food.

Look for affordable Easy Meal Solutions on busy days

How many times have you come home only to be so tired that you don’t have the time or the energy to cook and then ended up eating something really unhealthy or ordered food from a restaurant? Yes, we’ve all been there and I’m totally guilty about it.

That’s why I like to stock up my freezer with easy and healthy meal solutions on days like these. The Healthy Choice® Power Bowls are an excellent source of meat and veggies and these meals are ready under minutes in your microwave.

Healthy Choice Power Bowls are made with an intentional combination of bold flavors and a balance of vegetables, proteins, and whole grains to fuel your lifestyle. It uses antibiotic-free chicken as well as all-natural USDA Choice Beef.

And all it takes is 5 minutes of your time. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with it.

Just heat it up in your microwave and you have a delicious and flavorful meal with veggies and protein ready for you. I tried their Cuban Inspired pork bowl and was really impressed with its flavor. Say goodbye to bland and boring meals!

They are also very convenient to carry to work. If your commute is over half an hour, I suggest you put it in those small cooler bags so that they will stay cool by the time you reach your office. My husband has done this several times and he really likes the convenience.

Also, did you know these serving bowls are made from Plant-based fiber? I always love it when brands make conscious efforts to make things that are better for our environment.

Stay Hydrated the right way

Staying healthy also means keeping yourself properly hydrated. Sometimes I’m so busy with my work that I literally forget to drink water.

That’s why I love to have smartwater handy in my home as well as in my car when I’m traveling. Its fresh taste always makes me feel supercharged and I almost always reach out to it over regular tap water.

Not only does it have a uniquely clean taste, but it also has a balance of electrolytes that is added to vapor-distilled water.

Plus I also love the extra sleek and modern look of the bottle. The medium sized bottle comes with a sipper which is perfect to carry on the go as well! My husband is also a huge fan of smartwater sparkling water since it gives that extra flavor to your taste buds.

Take advantage of Cash Back offers on your Grocery Bill

Now you may not always be successful in finding coupons for healthy food items and I totally get it. I mean I have never seen coupons for milk or eggs or bananas. That’s when apps like Ibotta are really helpful as they give you cash back on items like these.

If you haven’t already started using them, what are you waiting for?

Speaking of Ibotta, there’s an awesome offer going on Healthy Choice Power Bowls which you should totally snag while you can!

Click here for the offer – Earn .75 cash back when you purchase Healthy Choice® Power Bowls at Walmart (any variety – any size)

Make sure to check the unit per pound

Big packages are often cheaper than their smaller versions. But beware, this may not be the case always. Sometimes stores may have offers on small or medium-sized packaging and it’s always wise to calculate how much you’re getting per ounce or pound.

Tip: I always use my phone calculator to quickly estimate how much I’m getting charged per oz. since I’m not really that great at math 😀

Pack your Lunch every day for work

If you are among those people who never or rarely carry food to work, you are seriously losing out on some cash. I know that it can be tempting when you see your colleagues go out and get lunch from your favorite places. I totally know that feeling.

But an even worst feeling is seeing your total expenses at the end of the month.

Taking leftovers for lunch is an excellent idea as you not only get to eat homemade food but will also help you to reduce your overall spendings.

Keep an Organized Fridge

I will be honest with you – sometimes some of my leftovers or fruits like strawberries, blueberries used to get lost and forgotten in the fridge.

What’s the point in buying healthy food when it’s not eaten on time and ultimately goes bad? Throwing away food equals to money gone down the drain.

Make it a habit to go through your fridge weekly. If there’s anything that needs to be eaten within a few days, keep it at eye level so you don’t forget about it.

If you freeze your food, go through your freezer periodically. An excellent way to remember when you had frozen your food is to write down the date on the ziplock.

So these were some of the simple ways that you can work towards a healthier lifestyle while still being in control of your budget. Careful planning is important and always remember that a key to a healthy lifestyle is a properly balanced diet.

What are some of the ways that you try to save money while still working towards a healthier lifestyle? I would love to know from you.

Also, don’t forget to grab your Healthy Choice Power Bowls as well as smartwater the next time you’re at your local Walmart and take advantage of the Ibotta offer.

You can find the Healthy Choice Power bowls in the Healthy Frozen Entree section and smartwater either in the water aisle or by the refrigerators near the cash registers.
