As we are all set for Spring, that familiar feeling of eating something chilled and sweet hit me the other day. For most people like me, ice cream is the go-to dessert. But what do you do when you want to eat something that’s a little healthier?

The reason I always try to make healthy treats and avoid heavy cream, butter and all that jazz is because I like to get my restaurant fix every now and then. And then, when you have super cute places that serve Rainbow Donuts (did I just say rainbow donuts?!), you just can’t say no even if they make you feel guilty later.

So by making healthy desserts, I like to kind of make myself feel good about not over-indulging in sugar-loaded stuff.

The other day, I saw that I had a big old tub of Greek yogurt lying in the refrigerator and for some reason, I wasn’t really feeling it. Of course, I ran to Pinterest and tried searching for a simple dessert recipe using Greek Yogurt.

If you ask me whether this tastes like the real deal – I will be very honest. A traditional chocolate mousse has that rich creamy consistency since it has cream, eggs and all the lovely things that make it heavenly.

This Greek Yogurt Chocolate Mousse will still give that yogurt feel to it but hold on –

It’s still delicious and nothing can beat that feeling of eating a healthy dessert – just like this lovely Chocolate Chia Pudding. Plus it only has 5 ingredients – nothing like a simple recipe, right?

I was even surprised when my husband ended up having it. He’s not a fan of plain Greek yogurt but this was a great way of sneaking in some protein in the form of a dessert!

The original recipe asked to chill the mousse in the fridge for about 2 hours. While I did that, I also decided to experiment a little. I put one of my ramekins filled with this mousse in the freezer for about an hour and ended up loving the creamy, freezer version as well!

Greek Yogurt Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients

  • Greek Yogurt - 1 3/4 cups
  • Milk - 1/2 cup
  • Chocolate Chips - 1/2 cup (I used semi-sweet chocolate chips - but you can use dark or sweet chips if you prefer)
  • Honey - 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla Extract - 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Pour milk in a saucepan and put it on low heat. When the milk warms up, add chocolate chips and stir them until they melt. (Don't bring the milk to a boil)
  2. Once the chocolate chips are melted, remove the milk from heat and let it rest for 3-5 minutes. Add honey, vanilla extract and greek yogurt and mix it properly. There should be no lumps (you can even use a hand mixer for this)
  3. Pour it into ramekins and let it chill for at least 2 hours.
  4. Serve chilled. You can add a little whipped cream on top while serving if you desire.

Notes

When I was testing out this recipe, I decided to experiment and kept some of it in the Freezer for about an hour. I ended up liking the creamy, frozen variation as well.

      Hi Jenna, I have not tried it with low fat yogurt but you can definitely give this a try with low fat if you’d like. I don’t think it would make much of a difference to the texture.

    How many servings does this make? I’m trying to figure out the Weight Watcher Freestyle points. (The entire recipe is about 28 points – using non-fat yogurt and whole milk – so if it’s divided by 4 servings, it would be about 7 pts each.)

      Christine K, this is a great question that I too would love answered. I couldn’t find how many servings this is supported to be divided into. I’m don’t know WWs system but when I plugged all ingredients in and poured it into 3 ramekins it came out to 300 calories a serving and that was using 0% fat greek yogurt and almond milk. Obviously if I divided the batch into 4 that would be better on the calories, but very small imho.?
      It is a super yummy recipe btw for those who wang to try it out and oh so EASY!

This makes 3 servings (although if you want smaller portions, you can make it into 4 servings – that is what we normally do as I prefer to have smaller portions) .     Made this dessert yesterday. For dinner I made Goulash with a side salad and garlic bread. My husband is an ice cream fanatic so when I came in with two chilled mugs with beautiful “whipped” ice cream, after dinner, he said what’s this. I didn’t answer…from the expression on his face after he took the first spoonful, it looked like he entered ecstasy. He LOVED this dessert. It was a perfect ending to a heavy dinner. I will definitely make this again.

    Just made this–I made four servings in ramekins and split it between fridge and freezer. It was super simple to make and will be a go-to dessert…already decided, even though I haven’t actually eaten it yet LOL…well, um, I did lick the spoon. Does that count? Can’t wait to try it!

    Delicious, very easy and quick, mostly healthy! I doubled it the second time around and used maple syrup and maple extract, quadrupled would not be too much! One of my favorite desserts.

    I tried this and liked it but the texture wasn’t so good. I used bittersweet choc. Chips and melted in microwave. I think that may be the problem. I also used twice as many as the recipe called for. That may also be part of the problem. What do you think? It tasted good, just the tiniest bit grainy. Suggestions please. I liked the taste, the simplicity, the minimal number of ingredients and the consistency. I was just off a bit in texture. I would give it 5 stars but can’t find the stars to do it.
